Duvel was created back in the early 20th century. The story has it that Belgians began acquiring a taste for British ales after bottles were brought to the country by soldiers during World War I. Brewer Albert Moortgat was a big fan. To commemorate the end of the First World War, using a strain of Scottish Yeast, Albert Moortgat baptised his originally as "Victory Ale". Later on, the blond nectar received its final name Duvel after a local shoemaker and friend of Albert Moortgat described the as "nen echten Duvel" or "a true Devil" during a tasting. And Duvel was born. A Belgian Iconic top fermented, bottle conditioned Golden Ale has been brewed since 1923. The bittering hops are Saaz, a strain normally used for pilsners, with a late aromatic flourish coming from Styrian Goldings. This innocent looking, pale golden looks like a pilsner but is packing a hidden wallop at 8.5%., a delicate pale colour, a thick foaming head and a light body with zesty fruitiness make it so dangerously drinkable for its strength it s not called Devil for nothing !
