Simply the way to go - superb product!
This kit is an all-in-one combination of high-quality colored leather dyes, repair materials and application tools, and I fully believe (having tested quite a few alternatives and competitors) that LeatherNu is the best on the market! Well-priced, and worth every penny, since it saved me hundreds on professional assistance. I had bought a used tan leather sofa and love seat a few months ago. Though they were mostly in very good condition, the previous owners had produced a few faded wear spots, pen marks, cigarette stains and a burn hole right on the front of the arm. The hole had been sloppily hidden by pinching the material together around it and gluing it with a discolored glue; once the pinch came undone, both the black burn and the off-white glue looked really bad. I knew, though, that if I could find the right product, I would figure out how to make the furniture look brand-new again. I won't slam the competition by naming anyone, but I will say that kits with colored repair compounds -- not truly leather dyes -- just cannot compare to LeatherNu. I spent SO much time with other products getting the color mix right, very difficult with thicker compounds, just to have them look like patchwork even when the color was the same as the original! The sofa was looking worse than before I'd started. So I used rubbing alcohol to remove my previous botched attempts, along with the pen marks. This resulted in removing the original dye in those spots as well, leaving me with faded areas and a forced commitment to get this project completely right. And then came LeatherNu -- game over, I won! LeatherNu's repair materials made the burn hole a simple, quick matter. So it all came down to mixing the exact color (in my case, to get a "burnt gold" kind of tan, I used mostly yellow, white, brown, a little black, and a tiny touch of green -- you can adjust by the drop as needed). Note that you'll want to test the color match in a small area once it's dry; the dye mix darkened by a few subtle shades as it dried so I added some more yellow and white. This made it look a hint too light when first applied, but it quickly dried to be right on target. And blending the edges of the dyed areas into the color of the surrounding fabric was simple with the little application brush, making the work ultimately invisible. I didn't even have to cut out the black area around the former burn hole; the dye completely covered it with one coat so it looks like it never happened. I also used the kit for my black leather jacket that I've had for ten years and everyone thinks that it, my sofa and my love seat, are NEW. I simply can't overstate how pleased I am with LeatherNu -- I fervently recommend the Company and its products for anyone's leather repair and color restoring needs! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT FOR ALL YOUR LEATHER TYPE REPAIRS! : )
First off, one of the main reasons I chose this product was because of the many times I read in reviews how great the company’s customer service was and now I can definitely vouch and say that is very true. I even received a personal email from the owner himself to make sure I was happy with my purchase. That's certainly dedication! I used this on a friend’s WWE replica championship belt that has a sort of faux leather/vinyl to it and I must say it worked VERY WELL. There was about a 5 inch tare down it from end to end that I not only wanted to fix for aesthetic purposes but also so that it wouldn’t get damaged anymore. This happened from being in the cold about 15 years ago and it was damaged pretty much since it was brand new until I decided to help fix it for him now. He hasn’t seen it yet but I very sure he’s going to be thrilled with the results. I do have some points I'd like to make about this product - 1.) It’s an excellent kit but is a little, just a little on the pricier side. $30.00 is a price that someone probably wonders if they should take a chance and try it, afraid that it may be a waste of money. You just never know until you attempt it. For what it did though, it wasn’t a waste at all but people don’t realize that from the start. Just one of those, “You have to try it yourself” things. 2.) The biggest issue I had with the kit was the consistency of the “Leather Repair Compound.” I think it should be somewhat thicker. Being the consistency of almost “Elmer’s Glue” did make the repair process a bit more challenging and messier. I have an art background and I definitely had to use my best artistic skills to get a great final outcome. It took many, many, many apply and dry periods over a week to build up enough to fill in the repair. It just always seem to sink it until finally it had built up enough of itself because of how liquidity it was. Perhaps if it was more like dry wall spackle that could go on thicker, dry and then maybe even sand the excess would help a normal, everyday repairer. Because of this, I almost used the entire bottle included never thinking I would almost need that much from the start. That being said though, with as much as I used made for a very thorough repair which was great in the end. Those were the biggest issues I had, but am VERY pleased with the results. The dye (Black) worked very well going on straight without having to mix it with any other color since the belt was a black and the sealer went on easily and seemed to finish the job nicely. Biggest thing I can say is TAKE YOUR TIME! If it takes a week or more to apply and let dry, many times to build up enough repair compound definitely do that and don't rush. You'll be happier with the results in the end. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT FOR ALL YOUR LEATHER TYPE REPAIRS! : )
